Description

The most common type of heat exchanger is the shell-and-tube heat exchanger. These exchangers come in different types depending on the number of shell and tube passes, and the simplest one has one shell pass and one tube pass. These exchangers usually have walls built into them to increase the heat transfer coefficient of the fluid in the shell by creating turbulence and a transverse velocity component in the flow. These walls are called baffles. Baffle heat exchangers are usually manufactured with one shell-pass and two tube-passes or with two shell-passes and four tube-passes.
